Thought Journal.

The design brief for this project challenged designers to create a physical, hand-bound book. Type and imagery had to be related and support one another, and be inspired by historic works. My solution for this brief was to create an experimental, unique, and personal book composed of haphazard journal entries and accompanying mixed media pieces. The target audience is teens to young adults, since the book features recorded attempts at navigating the world, inner thoughts, and beliefs and morals. These personal anecdotes are unfiltered and candid. In Thought Journal, type legibility is often linked to the coherency of the thought. This project tackles the “inspiration from historic works” challenge through its use of collage. Collage was frequently used in Dadaist pieces, and is associated with nonconformance, contradiction, and seeming senselessness, all of which are touched upon in the journal entries.
